Day 3: Lia, highlights & details

I work on my 25 hidden "LIA" words, some made out of negative space, some created by color alone and some simply carved, painted or applied like a decal or a logo on an object. Zoom in and see if you can spot them all.

I deepen the lower areas to accentuate the pale light behind the trees (we don't want a dark, foreboding forest, even though that would backdrop the faery wings beautifully.)

I have set the stage to receive the delicately translucent, wet on wet wings which I then overpaint when the first blend is dry, adding soft spots of translucent rose madder and cobalt, and slipping in teh final "LIA" made up of spots. Finally I add her skin tones and work on small detail areas like the thread-of-gold embroidery on Michaels coat and add definition to some of the hidden "LIA" easter eggs.

Last thing I did was knock back the damn droplets on my leaves from hell, the use my über sharp knife to scrape spot highlights to them and to create Cutie's whiskers.

All in all an OK result for a quick painting. There are some in my folio that took months to finish, and accordingly show a lot more planning and a higher level of execution, but there is still something appealing, I think about a simple watercolor wash piece.
