BioMind was founded when a group of scientists specializing in artificial intelligence computing created some software products for a bioinformatics firm. The AI scientists got the taste for genome and proteome research and developed a suite of tools to leverage the massive databases that the biotech community was producing.

The solutions all used a category of artificial intelligence programming known as thinking or learning machines, so the use of Rodin's Thinker sculpture seemed an appropriate image for their logo.

Various product extensions using color coded type styles consistent with the parent image were developed for the suite of tools.
