| Riptide
was founded in the first quarter of 1996, in New York. The firm's
original position was as a provider of high-end interactive communication
services: Web site design, Intranet development, interactive marketing,
online brand development etc.
Within
a year, Doug had successfully pursued relationships with Condé
Nast and Visa.
Staff
reached 16 within the second year of operations and Riptide was
named Visa's e-commerce consulting group of record, as well as SkyMall's
internet strategy agency of record.
By
1999 staff had peaked at around 40, revenues were approaching ten
million (US) and three companies were competing to acquire between
49% and 100% of the firm.
Doug's
visionary leadership and strong sense of market positioning had
made the enterprise attractive to large companies who needed "dot-com
savvy".
Riptide
merged in 2000 with three other firms in a $15 M asset acquisition
to create Digital Lighthouse, which launched its initial public
offering in April 2000 on NASDAQ (DGLH). Shares started trading
at $12.
