Riptide began development on a suite of Web Services applications in late 1998. The premise behind these applications was what Riptide technologists called Visible Intelligence.

The cornerstone to the Visible Intelligence suite was the Riptide Intelligence Portal. The enterprise solution was designed around an IBM e series Mainframe which hosted the relational database for a series of distributed applications servers, as well as the cognizant nodes for our machine learning AI.

Active use of intelligent abstraction of data allowed very fast (via normalized XML strings) transmission between administration servers, databases, diverse users and the demon-running applications servers.

Planning and development was overseen by Doug and a team of computational scientists between New York and Brazil.
